Torch application is a method of installing suitable bituminous roofing sheets using heat. It is not a general application method for every type of roof covering.
What does this mean on your roof?
The choice of method needs to reflect the product, substrate and building details. Specifying bitumen does not automatically mean identical application everywhere.
Junctions in particular need assessment within the selected system. This is work for a competent contractor, not a set of homeowner installation instructions or a general recommendation to use heat.
During preparation, ask how the proposed method suits the existing roof and what alternative application is used at sensitive details. Include the method and relevant exceptions in the scope. Do not compare quotations solely by membrane name; access, preparation and junction treatment may differ even when the same principal covering material appears in both proposals.
